Dirk Berckmans

Dirk Berckmans was admitted to the Antwerp bar in 1982.

He holds a law degree (1982), a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy (1979) and a Master’s in American Studies (1982). He also holds a postgraduate degree in Finance (Corporate Finance) (2013).

He has built up considerable experience in corporate law in general and in transaction practice in particular.

Dirk Berckmans assists medium-sized and large companies with takeovers and setting up partnerships of any kind both in Belgium and abroad. He has assisted clients in a wide range of new activities throughout Europe, the Middle East, China and various African countries.

He advises boards of directors on their strategic legal choices and provides assistance to shareholders with regard to their participations and mutual relations with other shareholder groups.

Dirk Berckmans also represents the interests of foreign shareholders in the context of their shareholdings in Belgian companies, both when acquiring them and when divesting them.

Furthermore, he often acts as a legal advisor in restructuring operations and provides assistance to companies in difficulty.

Finally, he is an independent director of various private companies and organisations such as Iurope and the Flemish Federation of Investors, in addition to previously serving as director of the Belgian Lebanese Business Council and WTC Antwerp. He is an active member of VOKA, the Belgian Corporate Finance Association and Guberna.
